Coonamble Angus was founded in 1967 by Murray Davis as a 15-year-old in Borden, Western Australia. The herd was relocated to the Bremer Bay property in 1988. Breeding angus cattle has been a lifelong passion for Murray & Sheryle, and they both remain actively involved to this day.

The stud was primarily founded on Hillside bloodlines, and in the early years, six sires were imported from New Zealand over a 9-year period, originating from Puketutu, Te Mania, Kaharah, and Atahl.

Te Mania Kelp had the most significant influence on the stud in the subsequent period, followed by a homebred sire, Coonamble U74, who was a son of TC Stockman 2164.

Coonamble Z3, an ET son out of Imran Rose Bud WFRU17, has had an enormous impact with sons like Buddy and Elevator, as well as daughters such as Coonamble WDCE9 (Hector's Dam).

Murray & Sheryle’s son, Craig and his wife, Natalie run the day-to-day operation of the stud and property today along with their son, Jack and stock manager, Hayden.

In 2009, when the Bangadang herd was slated for deregistration, Coonamble acquired Bangadang WHHU3, her daughter, and grand-daughter WHHW19 and WHHA61, along with WHHB31.

Additionally, embryos from five cows, syndicated from the Vermont dispersal sale, were introduced during this period. The focus was on strong families, including a direct daughter from the high-priced Vermont Dream Y301.

In 2013, Coonamble Angus also incorporated Carabar Black Cap QHEB37 and Carabar Black Cap Mary QHEA46 into their breeding program. These half-sisters originate from the Booramooka Tracy T4 cow family.

These new lines, combined with the most influential matriarchs from the founding cow families, which include Coonamble Nan WDCQ140 and more recently, Booramooka Warwick daughter Coonamble WDCD94, constitute the backbone of the herd today.
